Dear Friend,
The response to my last letter that discussed EMDR: The New Trauma Therapy was very enthusiastic. Many of you called for more information and for EMDR treatment. The stunning success of many of my clients has been truly impressive.
Just as EMDR has proved to be so highly effective, Hypnotherapy is now fully integrated in the family of contemporary treatment options.
Hypnosis has been around since the time of Mesmer and Freud, yet there is still some confusion about what it is and is not. Certain common sociocultural myths portrayed in movies and practiced by stage-hypnotists limit the full picture. In my practice I have found a winning combination in utilizing both EMDR and Hypnotherapy helping adults and children with intensive psychotherapy or with symptom-based problems such as, habit control, stress reduction, anxiety, depression, ADD, and peak performance in school, sports, art, and work.
What Is Hypnotherapy?
Integrated with psychotherapy hypnosis is a powerful tool which lends itself to both brief and intensive therapy. The state of trance can access unconscious inner resources and enhance the development of new coping abilities for the individual. Hypnosis is helpful in facilitating mastery of emotional responses, promotes insight, improves self-image and leads to overall positive personality change.
I hope you find this letter enlightening, and look forward to hearing from you if I can be of any help.
With personal regards,
Rita
What Is Clinical Hypnosis?
Integrated with psychotherapy hypnosis is a powerful tool which lends itself to both brief and intensive therapy. Martys Experience
Frightened of his upcoming surgery to the point of abject terror, Marty hoped that hypnosis would give him the courage and tools to proceed with the operation that promised to relieve the back pain which had immobilized him for years. Marty was a wonderful subject, quickly learned to induce his own trance, and easily accepted suggestions about relaxation, wellness and healing. Marty called me a week after the procedure and said, “It was a snap! Both my doctor and I are amazed by my rapid improvement.”
Hildas Experience
No one knew more about losing weight than Hilda Ð she had lost and gained 400 lbs. Hildas internist threw up his hands and suggested a last ditch treatment effort when he referred her to my office for hypnosis. During our first session I learned about the many years of utter despair and physical pain associated with her obesity. I told Hilda that I will not teach her how to lose weight as she was already an expert, but that we will use hypnosis and EMDR to change her relationship to food and uproot the triggers that had been driving her to over-eat. “I cant believe how effective this treatment is,” said Hilda after a few weeks. “It feels like major shifts are occurring deep within me. I find myself eating less, being able to make healthy choices and wanting to exercise more.”
KathleensS Experience
“Sometimes I worry that I constructed my own glass ceiling,” Kathleen told me. “My corporation is unique in its positive attitude toward women, and my rise to the top seems greatly hampered by my bosses annoyance at my tears when I get upset or frustrated during client meetings.” Kathleen had previously been helped using hypnosis for smoking cessation and felt optimistic that a similar result could be achieved here. As it turned out, hypnosis was a most effective tool in assisting Kathleen to interrupt her crying pattern and replace it with a set of more appropriate responses to heightened emotions. A promotion to executive vice president shortly followed.
Lauras Experience
As her wedding date neared Laura developed cold feet that even my book, Brides Guide to Emotional Survival, couldnt quell. A combination of psychotherapy and hypnosis helped Laura to gain the insight she needed to continue with her plans to get married. During trance we uncovered important information showing how Lauras uncertainties about her fiance were a concealed response to her fear of duplicating her parents marriage and becoming like her mother - a deeply unhappy and frustrated woman. Once armed with this formerly unconscious awareness, Laura was able to interject the reality of her own and her fiances competencies to construct an egalitarian and truly satisfying marriage.
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesnt serve the world.
There is nothing enlightening about shrinking so others wont feel insecure.
We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
Its not just in some of us; its in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
