March 2003 Newsletter

Dear Friend,

How do you create a life full of joy and meaning in the face of the ongoing threat of war and terrorism? These last l8 months introduced a new level of stress and anxiety into our lives. And yet we must carry on. Now more than ever it’s essential to find a way to live life to the fullest in the present. That’s all we ever really have anyway. So just for today, decide what will bring you peace, love, prosperity, health, fun, the most comfort and satisfaction. And go for it! Take some action steps today: Choose one thing you can do for your own personal growth and well being. One thing you can do to enhance your primary relationship. One thing you can do to move your career up another notch. One thing that will make you laugh and smile. Go on, do it Now!

And don’t forget to do your part for the greater good. I have recently become a member of the Red Cross Mental Health Disaster Team. My training, coupled with my current skills, will enable me to respond to local, national and international emergencies. I look forward to serving wherever I am needed.

I wish you, your family and friends the best of everything and the courage to make a difference.

With personal regards,
Rita

An Angel To Watch Over You

Some people
come into our lives
and quickly go...

Some people
become friends
and stay a while...

Leaving beautiful
footprints on our
hearts...

and we are
never
quite the same

Because we have made a good Friend!!

Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow a mystery.
Today is a gift.
That's why it's called the present!

Live and savor every moment...
This is not a dress rehearsal!

EMDR - A New Holistic Treatment For Traumatic Memories

You’ve heard me talk about EMDR before. I’m continually excited by it. It stands for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing which only means that there is this amazing way of doing therapy and helping you deal with your stuck feelings and distressing symptoms (including depression, nightmares, fears, anxiety, sexual & emotional abuse issues and relationship problems) using the latest body-mind therapy techniques. The back and forth eye movements (similar to how your eyes move during REM sleep) help the brain work-through a complicated set of painful memories and emotions. Though the eye movements work well, I have also achieved very good results with other sensory modalities, such as auditory and kinesthetic bi-lateral stimulation - listening to special music or gentle hand tapping.

I think of Holistic Therapy as related to the mind/body connection where you can find a way to treat a person effectively without drugs or surgery. Experiential healing work, such as EMDR, Dynamic Talk Therapy, Hypnotherapy, and Imagery applied by a caring, trustworthy expert clinician can make a genuine difference in a relatively short period of time. The EMDR session itself is unique for each individual and couple, and can be emotionally intense. An upsetting memory or a single issue can often be defused and give lasting relief in one to three sessions. One woman, Claudia, who came to see me for a six-year case of relentless insomnia connected to a rape incident, was completely cured after one session.

I am conducting a research study for Long Distance Therapy using a variety of therapeutic techniques including EMDR Online and on the telephone. Results are already pouring in showing that this major advance in the mental health field for coping with trauma and loss, in the right hands, used by a trained clinician that you trust, can be just as useful long-distance as it is in face-to-face treatment.

The Hard Times Club

These are complex and stressful times. The state of uncertainty in the world, poor economic conditions, the threat of terrorism, all generate fear, anxiety, and diminish our quality of life.

We will explore ways to cope during these hard times, learn healthy and useful tactics to increase peace of mind, develop skillful problem solving techniques, and come to terms with the reality of our world today. The resulting decrease of anxiety and fear will enable you to enjoy your life again.

Space is limited to eighteen adults in each venue. The cost is $18 per person. Reservations are essential and will be accepted on a first come basis.
